Furdesigner Martin Bosch - A creative head in Linz -

Martin Bosch and Petra Nussbaum the most distinguished fur designers in Germany

Linz Only a plaque bearing the inscription ‘Fur Design by Martin Bosch and Petra Nussbaum’ points to the ground floor villa at Am Saendchen 32, which once housed a champagne cellar. Nothing is more thrilling and inspiring for the feminine woman than a visit to the first floor studio. Quality furs such as mink, sable, or fox combined mink and weasel brocades, vests and jackets hang in the showroom beside soft stoles, capes and muffs.

“Fur is in demand. The times in which animal protectionists denounced the wearing of furs are fortunately gone. The fur trade is held strictly to the Washington Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITS), through which the survival of endangered species such as ocelots is ensured” explained Martin Bosch. The client determines the fashion, everything is possible, from flat persian wool to voluminous fox, from fleecy outter furs to soft inner linings.

“When we entered into business in 1986, we weren’t in the financial position to have a large shop. The fur business was at a low point, “ Bosch reminisces. The slogan they printed in a newspaper report, “millions are hanging in the closet”, brought to the young entrepeneurs many new orders. Though they first began with redesigning furs, today these two creative minds continue to design and redesign furs, as well as offer repairs, refurbishment, cleaning, and fur conservation. They also extend a special offer of a trade-in on old furs to all customers purchasing a new one.

Craftsmanship and flair for zeitgeist

“A fur can be sporty, elegant, modest, or luxuriuos in appearance. Heavy coats are currently difficult to sell, the trend is now towards velvet mink” the master furrier reports. The velvet mink is not a new fur type, but rather has undergone a specialized treatment which removes the harder, upper hairs, leaving behind only the fleecy undercoat.

How diverse and broad the skill of their craft can be is proven by their last two creations which have won them the last two of their combined 14 gold medals for fur design. Both awards were bestowed for their imaginative design, as well as for processing and professional implementation. These 14 gold medals, along with countless other prizes make Martin Bosch and Petra Nussbaum the most distinguished fur designers in Germany.
